Dear…

Part of Spring/Break Art Show, 2014
Off, Away, Down, curated by Cuaracao C.M.

Dear…,2014
Mixed media Video sculpture (pico projector, wood, drafting film),
6″ x 6″ x 6″ Edition of 5.

“Dear…” presents videos shot in January in Abu Dhabi into a sculptural display conceived especially for the Spring/Break art show. Last November, the United Arab Emirates were celebrating their 42nd anniversary. In a bit more than my lifetime, a few thousand nomads created a megalopolis with the ambition of becoming the economic and cultural capitals of the 21st century. Industries, World Class Institutions, museums and galleries are competing to become a part of it. Millions of immigrants from all over the world are joining in to help build this empire and seek their “fortune”. From the labor camps in the middle of the desert to the booming financial and cultural districts, I have been witness to a world in mutation. With video camera in hand, I recorded intimate human encounters. Singular experiences have been digitally merged, cut and layered in order to deliver a glimpse of the complexity of the situation.

The video has been possible with the support of The Abu Dhabi Art Hub Art Residency Program.
