C’est pas l’homme, 2011

Gym mats cutouts floating on the Caribbean sea, dimensions vary depending on the tide and the waves.
Discarded gym mats from the Eden Rock luxury hotel were donated to create the installation C'est pas l'homme. During a week, in the evening, Gardair would get in the water accompanied by a mat and a knife to start an impromptu performance for the few bathers that happened to be at the beach at that time. In a wrestle against the elements the artist cuts the mat along a single continuous line ending right before dividing the mat in two. At the end of the week, each ends are knotted together into a long single lined attached at its end to a buoy where it then starts its dance with the sea.
