Mobilier National's commission

In 2017, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron. replaced the Louis XIV carpet designed by Charles LeBrun by one designed by Julien Gardair in 2006.
It took almost 4 years of careful work to 3 master weavers to hand wave the 170 square feet rug.
The Savonnerie Manufacture commissioned numerous artists since its beginning in 1627, creating the rich catalog of the Mobilier National.
This design was made spraying bleach through a pochoir protecting a large piece of black felt. Through a multitude of tiny spots of various shades of yellow, the deep black is transformed into a shimmering starry night resembling to gold.
The carpet was woven in the Lodeve's ateliers of the Savonnerie Manufacture, located in the south of France.
